A Service of Hope for the Heavy- Hearted
Brightly wrapped packages, Christmas trees, holiday parties, holly and the scent of pine, unending upbeat carols in shops and malls, visits with friends and family, baking and cooking, food everywhere–and the awed, hushed joy of welcoming a tiny infant to our world and our hearts–these are the images of Christmas many of us have celebrated and treasured among our fondest memories.
But this year is different. Much of what we have known and loved over the years has been put on hold, even lost altogether, this year and many find themselves grieving, mourning the loss of something or someone in this time that has been so devastatingly touched by the Covid-19 crisis. We know that for others, with or without Covid, there would be various circumstances of life that would serve as obstacles to their experiencing the holiday season as “the most wonderful time of year.”
With all that in mind, we are offering an experience to help us collectively acknowledge that which weighs heavy on our hearts, while also lifting up the eternal truth that “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” John 1:5.
Let us walk together, on what in 2020 is this longest night of the year, towards the light.
